“Men in a ship are always looking up, and men ashore are usually looking down.” – John Masefield
Sunseeker 86 Yacht, impressive in it’s own right, boasts 26 metres of sublime style, space and advanced technology. The interior architecture is faultless from bow to stern, main saloon to the cabins below deck. This work of art is more than just a pretty face, elegantly able to sail glistening oceans & seas at a top speed of 30 knots*.
“Style is when the inside is as beautiful as the outside.” – Coco Chanel
So how can you beat the luxury of floating opulence? You don’t, you just make it better. Sunseeker teamed up with Alexander James Interiors to dress the 86 Yacht that was featured at the Southampton Boat Show this September. If AJI can design and dress million pound mansions, then surely a 26 metre Yacht is just a drop in the ocean?
“Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.” – Coco Chanel
Dressing a yacht isn’t just pretty cushions and lavish fur throws (although, this is an AJI feature on Sunseeker 86 Yacht, and it is gorgeous!) – the skilled interior designers at AJI had to think hard about the spacial planning and the practicality of what is essentially a home on the sea. They had to put everything they know about designing a 5000 sq. ft. property into a 26 metre yacht, and think about the fact that it will be crossing the ocean at speeds up to 30 knots. I can assure you, this was executed to an outstanding level of abundant luxury whilst understanding the realism of dressing a moving abode. (Proof in the form of photos to below.)
“I have the simplest of tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.” – Oscar Wilde
…And I’m certain that Oscar Wilde would be more than satisfied with AJI and Sunseeker’s collaboration. AJI have successfully made their own mark on typical boat interiors by incorporating a monochromic palette and combining nautical stripes with luxurious patterns such as animal/scale prints on the soft furnishings.
Entering the main saloon via the smoked glass doors is immediately impressive. The clean white seating makes the most of the space available whilst making the area look even brighter and larger. The dark wood is cohesive throughout the yacht and looks especially exclusive and expensive. Every element of the furnishing enhances the interior, not one cushion too many and no accessory is too much.
The dining area of the main saloon is grand and a fabulous entertaining area, filled with natural light. The statement, dividing wall to the front of the yacht is abundant with style with its dark wood and mirrored panelling. Lighting adds so much to a house and even more in a yacht, the coffered ceiling with LED lighting opens up the space and adds the affluence of a chandelier without minimizing the space of the room.
The kitchen is compact and practical yet sleek and plentiful in storage. These finishing touches of the jars and the slate place mat etc. adds that homely touch which makes the floating 5* hotel go to a floating luxury home.
The cabins below deck are surprisingly spacious (well done Sunseeker) with magnificent style, marble bathrooms, upholstered headboards with spotlights and glass shelving. The contrasting patterns of the cushions complement each other exceptionally and the plush fur throw adds yet more ostentatious opulence.
“Luxury is attention to detail, originality, exclusivity and above all quality.” -Angelo Bonati
Sunseeker & AJI both individually and together seamlessly deliver bespoke designs and fantastic customer service whilst paying attention to the finest detail. Even the perfume bottles and jewellery were perfectly positioned on the dressing tables in the cabins!
I’d like to say a huge thank you to Sunseeker & AJI. We were treated like royalty in the Sunseeker V.I.P lounge at the Southampton Boat Show thanks to their brilliant hospitality and accommodating staff. Everyone was extremely friendly and so proud of the company they work for. Every single yacht displayed at the show had it’s own character and they were all exclusively extraordinary.
Previously, I spent some time at AJI and it was a brilliant experience, again everyone was lovely & charming and I could tell it’s a fantastic company to work for and I enjoyed every minute I spent there. They also design some pretty good interiors… (see my previous post about AJI show homes on my blog.)
